Telltale announced via a teaser trailer at The Game Awards that their next game will be Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: A Telltale Series.
Like Telltale’s other recent games, Guardians of the Galaxy will be an episodic series with a total of five episodes. The series will begin its release in 2017, and will be available digitally as well as on a physical Season Pass disc. With the Season Pass disc, the first episode will be included on the disc, and the rest will be able to be downloaded when they are released.
It is currently not known whether this game will be associated with the Marvel films or with the Marvel comics, or even which characters will be in the game. In an official statement, Kevin Bruner, CEO and co-founder of Tellale, said “In Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series, players will take on multiple roles within the ragtag band of heroes, and take the pilot’s seat in directing their escapades around the universe.”
Jay Ong, senior vice president of games and innovation at Marvel Entertainment, also contributed to the statement, praising Telltale’s storytelling abilities:
“With story at the core of everything that Marvel creates, who better to team with than master storytellers Telltale Games. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series fully showcases Marvel and Telltale’s rich legacy of storytelling, and fans will find themselves immersed in an original, character-driven narrative. As part of our strategy to establish a new standard for Marvel games, this is certainly among the great titles to come.”
The game is set to release in 2017, and will be available on consoles, PC, and mobile devices. The consoles were not specified, but presumably it will release on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
