Square Enix has just announced the release of the latest Dragon Quest game, Dragon Quest Heroes II.
Dragon Quest is a critically acclaimed series of turn-based RPGs by Square Enix with character designs by famed manga artist Akira Toriyama. The game franchise is so popular that numerous spin-off titles have been made, including the rail shooter-esque Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors and the not-Minecraft game Dragon Quest Builders. Dragon Quest Heroes II, the sequel to Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree’s Woe and the Blight Below, is the latest in a long line of these spin-offs.
Very little is known about Dragon Quest Heroes II, aside from the cinematic trailer and the descriptions and features listed on the pre-order page. The features are described as:
- Online Multiplayer – Up to 4 players can play online
- Transform into a monster and battle as one of them
- New world, new story & new adventures
- Numerous playable characters with unique abilities
- Change your vocation and play in any fighting style with a variety of magic & weapons
The original Dragon Quest Heroes was a departure from the classic Dragon Quest formula. Instead of wandering around the world and fighting varied and colorful monsters in classic turn-based JRPG battles, Dragon Quest Heroes features gameplay similar to Dynasty Warriors titles; characters wander battlefields of varying sizes and mow down countless weak monsters and numerous stronger boss monsters. Dragon Quest Heroes II will most likely follow the same formula as its predecessor. Oddly enough, Dragon Quest Heroes II has only been announced for the PlayStation 4.
Dragon Quest Heroes II will release on April 25, 2017.
