Worlds Adrift is shaping up to be one of the most interesting MMOs to come out in a while, and its new trailer reaffirms that.
With the trailer’s opening shot into the cave in a snowpeak of a floating island, you know that this game is trying to do something very special– and ambitious. We see people leaping from island edges and releasing artificial wings, sailing through fog, bringing to mind the flight in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. We see real-time weather effects as players collaborate to build an airship, and players explore new, bigger islands– some more inhabited and hostile than others, attacking each other (and even those building airships) with cannons and guns. In the aftermath comes exploration.
Worlds Adrift developer Bossa Studios describes the project: “Sail through the clouds in an unscripted, massively multiplayer sandbox game with real-time physics, set in a world that is permanently changed by player actions. It is a huge world with no artificial boundaries; an environment where thousands of players can interact simultaneously and, where every move a player makes has potentially huge and long-lasting consequences for everyone living in the same universe.”
An early access release is expected in early 2017. You can sign up for the PC-exclusive beta here. And make sure to check out Gamespresso’s previous coverage of Worlds Adrift, here.
