Niantic will soon introduce various new features and Pokemon to Pokemon GO. This update may make the game seem like a whole new place with a brand new attitude, but you still gotta catch ’em all.
According to the official Pokemon GO site, trainers will be able catch Pokemon gender variants and over eighty new Pokemon, all of which are from Generation 2’s Johto region, later this week. These new Pokemon include Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Skarmory, Donphan, and many more. Trainers have waited for these Pokemon ever since the Pokemon GO fansite The Siph Road datamined their cries (as well as confirmation of gender and shiny variants). Sadly, Niantic has not officially announced anything regarding shinies.
Trainers can expect more than just new Pokemon in the update. For example, PokeStops will sometimes give out evolution items. Trainers need these items if they want to obtain Pokemon such as Steelix and Kingdra.
The update also adds several quality of life improvements. Pokemon will react in new and exciting ways during encounters. The encounter screen will also have item carousels that let players easily select berries and Poke Balls without scrolling through the item menu. Speaking of berries, trainers can soon find the brand new Nanab and Pinap Berries at PokeStops. These berries slow down wild Pokemon and double the amount of candy trainers receive from successful captures respectively. Finally, the update will add much-anticipated (and requested) wardrobe and avatar customization options.
