ARK: Survival Evolved launched onto Steam on June 2nd and already has gained a lot of popularity from the community, as well as some scathing feedback, and Studio Wildcard have promised it won’t stop here.
ARK has seen an influx of survivors, clamoring to get their hands on a dinosaur saddle and ride the T-Rex into battle. In just the first forty eight hours of being released into Early Access on Steam more than two hundred thousand people found their way onto a server and began their new life on the mysterious island.
On top of this the studio say over two thousand community servers pop up within the first twenty four hours of the game’s initial release to compliment the dozens of official servers that Studio Wildcard run.
Performance is one of the key issues that the community has brought up in the Steam discussions, with the game not handling lower end hardware too well. Some users with quad core processors and graphics cards such as the GTX 970 have been experiencing very low framerates as low as ten. Co-creator Jesse Rapczak, said this wasn’t a focus for them initially.
“We didn’t spend a lot of time optimizing for lower-end graphics cards,” he said, “because that would have taken development time away from our team.”
Continuous updates and performance boosts are being promised on top of more content as well as expansion onto more platforms for the game. There will also be mod support for the game, including custom maps.
ARK: Survival Evolved will launch in 2016 on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as Mac and Linux support being promised for the end of June 2015.
