Doctor Strange is one of Marvel’s most unique characters. In a universe where super soldiers, angry, green Frankensteins that are stronger than Superman, genetic mutants with unprecedented powers, and bionic suits that can turn even the most normal human into a hero (or villain), a magician seems to be the most normal hero that they could come up with. But even Doctor Strange is able to keep an air of authenticity and uniqueness to him, as the universe’s supreme sorcerer.
While filming for the Doctor Strange movie wasn’t supposed to start until December, it looks like the crew has started work a month early and headed to Nepal to start filming. A fan of the film took a picture of the shoot and posted it to Twitter. A fair warning, though. This isn’t exactly the best shot in the world, and they aren’t hi-res pictures released by Marvel. The picture is grainy and somewhat hazy in a way that reminds me of my Sprint Razor.
The shot shows Benedict Cumberbatch in the role of Doctor Strange with a sort of half-baked beard. Most likely the shooting is starting in Nepal to kickstart Dr. Strange’s origin story. He goes to Nepal in search of the Ancient One that can heal his broken hands after they were permanently damaged in a car accident. The film also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg and Mads Mikkelsen.
Hopefully now that filming is underway we’ll be able to see more shots of Benedict Cumberbatch as the mysterious magician. Doctor Strange is directed by Scott Derrickson and will be released in theaters on November 4, 2016.
