It’s been a little over two months since Gears of War Ultimate Edition released, and little has been known about when players would receive the promised codes for the backwards compatible versions of all other games in the series. We now know that these codes will be sent out soon.
A tweet sent out by the Gears of War twitter feed confirmed that codes for Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3, and Gears of War Judgement will begin to be sent out on December 1. Everyone who purchases and plays Gears of War Ultimate Edition prior to December 31st will be sent codes to download and play the other games in the series.

The codes are expected to be released in waves. So, if you don’t receive your codes right away, exercise some patience. They are coming!
As far as online multiplayer goes, players can expect the same features available to them on Xbox 360. “All game modes, including Multiplayer, will work just as they do on Xbox 360,” according to an FAQ posted by Microsoft “Additionally, you can play with people who are either playing Gears of War via backwards compatibility on Xbox One, or on Xbox 360.”
If you already own the digital version of the titles, they will be made available to you in the Xbox One library. For physical owners, just put in the disc and wait for the game to fully install, and you will be able to play from there.
Backwards compatibility launches with the New Xbox One Experience Thursday, November 12.
